The 2021 MPI (Math Problems in Industry) Proceedings have been published!

In this MPI we attempted to use machine learning algorithms to study the correlations among different features and symptoms of COPD and their likelihood of presaging an acute exacerbation; this would alert the patient to take immediate action.

COPD or chronic obstructive pulmonary disease is a collection of lung inflammatory diseases, most commonly chronic bronchitis and emphysema, that is the third leading cause of death in the world. In the US, there are 12-16 million COPD sufferers.

Mathematical Problems in Industry (MPI) is a problem solving workshop that attracts leading applied mathematicians and scientists from universities, industry, and national laboratories. During the workshop, engineers and scientists from industry interact with the academic participants on problems of interest to their companies.
