University Of Oxford student presents their project work with Vironix Health.
Anna Berryman, a student of the Industrially Focused Mathematical Modelling Centre for Doctoral Training (InFoMM CDT) at the University of Oxford’s Mathematical Institute, presented her work with Vironix on early detection of influenza-related health deterioration using global clinical characteristic data. She presented a highly novel and in-depth comparison of Monte Carlo Sampling vs Copula methods for converting literature-based clinical characteristic data (in the form of marginal distributions) into patient vignettes for the purpose of training prediction models. She further built and scrutinized new machine learning classifiers for identifying high-risk influenza patients using commonly available at-home consumer health data. Anna’s project work was co-supervised by Oxford university’s Dr. Terry Lyons (Wallis Professor of Mathematics), Oxford University’s senior doctoral student in mathematics, James Morill, and Vironix’s Co-Founder and CEO, Dr. Sumanth Swaminathan.
